Golf season

Golf season leaves a very specific mess

Erin Hills sits in the town and drew national attention when it hosted the U.S. Open, and from spring through autumn a meaningful share of Erin vehicles are carrying clubs, shoes and bags several times a week.

The problem is not the clubs, it is the shoes and the boot. Spiked or soft-spiked golf shoes carry damp grass clippings and sand from bunkers, and both go straight into the boot carpet where the bag sits. Grass is the difficult one. Chlorophyll staining is among the hardest interior stains to remove fully, and it sets faster than people expect — a bag left on boot carpet overnight after a wet round will often mark it.

Bunker sand compounds it. It is finer than beach sand and it works deep into the boot carpet and the spare wheel well, where it stays until someone lifts the load floor. We check that well on every Erin vehicle because it is almost always where the sand ended up.

Gravel drives and hill roads

The town is rural with large lots, and a lot of Erin properties sit at the end of long gravel or crushed-stone drives.

That produces fine limestone dust that gets tracked in at both ends of every trip and settles into dash vents, seat stitching and the felt of door pockets. It is pale, so on dark interiors it shows immediately and people notice it far more than the same volume of dark road grit.

The Kettle Moraine terrain adds the rest. Steep, winding roads mean more lateral movement in the cabin, so loose debris migrates into seat gaps and under seats rather than staying on the floor where you can see it.

Autumn brings other people's traffic

Holy Hill draws heavy visitor traffic through the fall colour season, and the roads through Erin carry a lot of it.

Practically that means more time in slow traffic on leaf-covered rural roads, and wet leaves tracked into vehicles. Leaf tannin stains light carpet and upholstery, and like grass it sets as it dries rather than waiting politely.

October is the month to book if your vehicle does that season every year. Getting the staining out before it has spent a winter setting makes a real difference to how completely it lifts.
