Freight film is greasy, not gritty

Sharing Highway 26 with heavy freight puts a specific layer onto a vehicle: diesel soot, tyre rubber, oil and road water, thrown up as a continuous mist by every truck in wet conditions. It is oily. It holds dirt. It bonds as it dries, and it builds in layers over years.

That layer is why a Watertown car can be washed weekly and still look flat, and why the windscreen smears under the wipers rather than clearing. The soot is in the film on the glass as much as on the paint.

The exterior half of a full detail on these starts with a degreasing stage that most vehicles do not need, then iron removal for the brake and rail component, then clay. Then protection, because bare paint back on the corridor picks the film up again within weeks.
